"Preparing data for searching" for minutes?

I just started using Netbeans a few days ago and have run into an issue I hope you can help me with. I've got a project that includes pretty much just the base installation of the open-source eCommerce Magento, without any real modification.

I often need to search for a string in ALL xml files in this project, and to do so it's taking Netbeans several minutes for each search. The vast majority of the time it is "preparing data for searching."

At first I thought it must be because the source files were actually located on another computer on my network, through a mapped drive. However, I enabled the "copy files from Sources Folder to another location" in my project's properties to cache it locally. The problem persists.

Any thoughts? Thanks!

mapped drive is likely the reason for the slowness; unfortunately, copying-
sources does not help in this case (copied sources are not used by NetBeans at
all).
