I am not quite sure I understand the life cycle of JSF and how the users interact with the objects.

I have an application with two (virtual) forms on the first page. One of the forms has a list drop down box that get populated by a list of hostnames. If I deploy a new copy of the application, the dropdown is populated.

However, it appears that when the application is left to "sit", and I come back in after a while (days), the page show sup fine, but the drop down box is empty. If I do something (click a button), I get some errors (eg, unsatisfied validations), but then it looks like the data source is reconnected and the drop-down is repopulated.

Can anyone tell me what I am doing wrong? Have I left out some code to close/open the data source. The application was down with the JSF and Visual Web JSF, Tomcat 6.0, and J2EE 1.4.The database in questions happens to be MySQL.

If you need more information, I'll supply as much as possible. This is annoying, but the system is usable.

Thank you.
