Searching for a specific column rather than whole row

Hello all,

Following the tutorial on http://netbeans.org/kb/docs/java/gui-db-custom.html I need to search on a specific column instead of the whole row without removing or adding columns to the table. The rowSorter on the tutorial will search for a string on the whole row. How can I solve this?
