I am trying to follow this tutorial to get REST webservices from a database.

http://netbeans.org/kb/docs/websvc/rest.html#Exercise_1

I run into problems when I try to deploy the generated project. I have chosen hibernate for the persistence unit. Its a maven web projects. The other libraries for persistence give my even stranger errors.

I am able to generate everything (services, entity classes, converters, restful web services) but when I try to deploy the project I get an error concerning multiple version of 'org.apache.commons.logging.Log'. This error is in the log of the netbeans internal glasfish 3 server. My netbeans version is 6.8.

There is only 1 commons logging library in the project. I found some information about the error here http://articles.qos.ch/classloader.html but it didn't lead me to a solution to the problem.

Does anyone have a solution for this? I kind of surprised that I get an error just trying to follow a basic tutorial for generating REST web services.

I'm kind of surprised you didn't follow the first step in the tutorial:

"1. Choose File > New Project. Under Categories, select Java Web. Under
Projects, select Web Application and click Next."

Ok, it works when I start a Java web project and follow all the specified steps.

I tried a Maven project because is started out with restfull webservices from patterns and there you can go for a Java web or Maven web project, so I thought the same would apply here as well.

http://docs.sun.com/app/docs/doc/820-7627/giqaa?a=view

I still don't see a good reason why this doesn't / shouldn't work in a maven web ap.

Also if you don't select the default eclipselink 2.0 persistence unit but Toplink or Hibernate, you get all kinds of errors.

The error for hibernate is this one,
