Hi,
I am using netbeans to view the source code of an existing project. However, there is a same error in most of the files that says that "package javax.ejb does not exist". How can I solve this problem?

Hello,
I would venture a guess and say that your installation of NetBeans does not
have the "EJB and EAR" plugin installed or enabled. To test this guess of
mine, go to Tools > Plugins > Available Plugins and look for the "EJB and
EAR" plugin. If it is not in the Available Plugins tab switch over to the
Installed tab and if it's there make sure that it is enabled (a green check
will be visible in the Active column).

You're right, I don;t have it installed. However, now, I have another problem. I want to install it but netbeans won't continue the installation. It has been staying at the 5% mark for over 20 mins. I have restarted it multiple times but it still stops at a certain percentage. What is wrong here?

Hmm, another guess would be that you need to also install Java Web
Applications plugin although any dependencies should have automatically been
installed as well.
Let me know what version of NetBeans you are using and I will try to
reproduce this issue as well.

I am using netbeans IDE 7.0.1. The Java Web Application was automatically selected but it still gets stuck at a different percentage everytime and if I cancel and click install again, it will not even move from 0% unless I restart netbeans.

Could you attach your NetBeans log file?
Before you do this, restart NetBeans and go through the same steps you've
done to get to the part where NetBeans hangs at 0%. This way the log will
contain the relevant info. Then shut NetBeans down and grab the log file and
attach it.
To get this file go to your user directory and then
".netbeans/var/log/messages.log". For example on my machine (Win7) the log
files for NetBeans 7.0.1 are located at
"C:\Users\Jonathan\.netbeans\7.0\var\log\messages.log".
If you post this log file I and others may be able to help further.

| This is the message file. There is also a messages.log file.1 but it cant be attached. When I close netbeans, it will restart by itself and then I close it again.

For some reason the log file doesn't include enough info. It doesn't even
include the entire startup process. Not sure what happened there.
Try to do this one more time. Be sure and run through the steps that you've
described above and then shut NetBeans down completely before grabbing the
log file. Before you upload the file make a note of its size and then after
you upload it make sure the same size appears in the " Filesize" row of the
post.

I have done exactly the same and have renamed the extension so it can be attached. The names of the files should be:
messages.log
messages.log.1
messages.log.2
The sizes are the same

Well, one of the logs came through enough to get some exceptions printed
(messages.log.1). It seems that you're having trouble downloading a module.
Just to see if we can work around this, navigate your browser to the URL
below[1] and install the module that is downloaded. To manually install this
module navigate to Tools > Plugins > Downloaded[Tab] and click the Add
Plugins... button. You'll see a lot more modules being listed as
dependencies and that's as expected.
You may run into the same issue with the rest of the modules that need to be
downloaded in which case there is something outside of NetBeans and the
NetBeans update center that is preventing you from downloading any modules
(intermittent connection, virus protection, firewall...).

Sorry for the late reply, things have been busy. Are you saying that you
successfully downloaded the module and while installing it you were seeing
the same issue? If that is the case then I would guess that the issue is
_not_ related to NetBeans.
The logs that I looked at previously showed that NetBeans was throwing an
exception around the code that was doing the download of the module that I
had you manually download. By downloading this module manually you proved
that the issue was not related directly to this module since you are still
seeing the issue. I would guess that your logs now show the same type of
exception being thrown only with another module.
There is however still a chance that it is related to NetBeans and to test
this idea the only other option open to you is to completely uninstall
NetBeans (removing the settings) and reinstall an freshly downloaded copy.
If you are still having the same issue after a complete reinstall then I
would speculate that the issue is related to something outside of NetBeans
(ISP, local network, firewall, virus protection etc.).
I empathize with your situation as this kind of issue can be very
frustrating.

I downloaded a new copy which included the Web and EE together with the installation and after activating them, there is still "package javax.ejb does not exist". Also, I can't update any of the plugins as it will get stuck at a certain percentage like before.

Unfortunately you still need the "EJB and EAR" plugin. The "Java Web and EE"
is for a slimmed down version of Java EE called Web Profile which doesn't
include things like EJB but has only a subset of Java EE.
I'm convinced, and I imagine you are too, that the issue is outside of
NetBeans. My suggestion would be to turn off everything that may be getting
in the way such as virus protection, firewall etc. until you're able to
download the plugins from NetBeans.
