Any time.

Be sure to use Facelets and not JSP. Facelets are now the default.

Most plain JSF widgets have the ability to operate in Ajax mode.
PrimeFaces just add a little more formatting.

The PrimeFaces site has a lot of good examples.

I would reccomend using the new PrimeFaces 3. It is on the second
milestone and should be released shortly.

It has quite a few differences from the older versions and a lot of
enhancements.

If you are just learning this stuff you may as well start with version
3, it will be easier than upgrading later. It's pretty easy too
install, you just load one jar into your project. If you need to use
some features it needs a few other jars.
