How to create mutiple instances of tomcat from one tomcat installation

Hi

I have looked online and every discussion I find talks only about copying the tomcat installation as many times as needed and configuring them in netbeans. The question is two fold.

1.) Is there a way to configure multiple instances of tomcat from one installation.

2.) If not, is there a reason doesn't netbeans support this ?
