I am new to Java ME. I want to develop an app with a graphical UI for mobile phone.
I installed Netbeans 8.1 and Java ME SDK 8.2.
I created a simple “Hello World” application; that worked.
However, I can only use a line oriented UI (MEEP Cool.
I like to use a graphical UI; and I think that I need MIDP.
Therefore I tried Java ME SDK 3.4 (again in Netbeans 8.1). But I could not complete the installation because of a problem with plugin dependencies.
It complained that it neded a plugin of at least version >=2.1.1 and it found version 3.21.1. Strange!
Is there anyway that I can overrule this?
Or should I install another Java ME SDK?
Thanks.

Hi,

Java ME SDK 3.4 works here so I might be able to help.
A few questions first:

- You say Netbeans 8.1, do you mean current 8.0.2 version (that's what I'm using), because afaik there's no 8.1 version (is there ?)

- You say you'd like to use a graphical UI, do you mean an emulator by this ?

If so, that's what the SDK provides, so no need to install MIDP separatedly.

In general, have you referred to this tutorial ? That worked for me.
https://netbeans.org/kb/73/javame/quickstart.html

Note that, apart from Netbeans, the ME plugin, SDK, you also need a JDK (I use JDK 1.7) and need that set up correctly.

Here's how it looks for me:

If everything is set up correctly you should see the emulator platform and device option in project properties:

Let me know if this helps. Smile
