hi all, got my odroid working like a charm except for netbeans. i always get this error when i try to start the netbeans shellscript ...

Unrecognized option: -client
Error: Could not create the Java Virtual Machine.
Error: A fatal exception has occurred. Program will exit.

all modes of install lead to same outcome ...
i have java openjdk-version 1.8.0_121 64-Bit Server VM (mixed mode)
also javac of same version
java vm works like a charm when i use it with BlueJ. i cannot find the string client in the shell script either.

any suggestions greatly welcome.

Here is a fix that I found at http://www.tomshardware.com/faq/id-1761312/fix-create-java-virtual-machine-issue.html:

When that happens, the easiest solution that has been tested on Windows XP, Windows 7 and Windows 8 is:

Open the Control PanelGo to SystemGo to Advanced Systems PropertiesThen Environment VariablesIn System Variables, click AddNew Variable Name: _JAVA_OPTIONSNew Variable Value: -Xmx512MClick OK
That's it, your Java program should now be able to execute properly. For those interested, Java -Xmx/s is the configuration parameter that control the amount of memory Java uses.
  • Xmx sets the maximum heap memory size
  • Xms sets the minimum heap memory size
See http://www.jafaloo.com/2011/10/30/java-xmx-memory-settings/ for more details on Java Heap memory size and parameters.

Best of luck to you and happy coding!

i wish i could report success, alas, is not to be. i tried with every conceivable form of installing (os indp zip download, apt-get netbeans, apt-get netbeans-installer) then running any of these with -J-Xmx500m. just hangs for about 20 seconds then returns without console info or hangs as long as i was willing to wait (like overnight). any other suggestions? runs fine on my raspberry pi arm32, just not on the odroid aarch64 ... pulling my hair out.
