I just installed Netbeans PHP on Mac OSX and it refuses to boot. It bounces for a second in the dock and then quits. Is there something I need to know.

(I tried re-downloading and installing it with the same results.)

Thanks,

Don't you have some other instance of netbeans running that is using the
same userdir? If so, then either close the other netbeans or run
netbeans with --userdir <path_to_another_userdir>. You can use whatever
empty folder. If this doesn't work then submit a bug into issuezilla
[1], please, and attach your <userdir>/var/messages.log file.

Thanks a lot!

Thanks for your reply, though I am afraid I don't fully understand. First, there is no other instance of netbeans running. This happened the first time I tried to boot it. I am working from an OSX package by double clicking on it. This is all that was installed by the installer I ran.

It is not clear to me how to configure netbeans to use a particular directory as you indicate. There are no configuration files that seem to make it possible to set the userdir, including in any of the files in the application package.

I'm sorry that I don't understand what the userdir is here. It is clearly not my OSX user directly as no var/ sub-directory exists there. I'm not sure what other user directory you are referring to.

I have seen no installation instructions explaining how to set up the directory as you indicate.

Thanks,

Don't worry Smile. This link might help you.
http://wiki.netbeans.org/FaqAlternateUserdir

as you can read there you need to run your netbeans via commandline with
--userdir command. For OSX

/Applications/NetBeans.app/Contents/MacOS/executable --userdir
~/my-other-userdir

Good Luck! :)
