I have used Dreamweaver for years when creating and editing my PHP websites. However, Dreamweaver does not work very well in Linux so I am currently using NetBeans for that. However, it forces me to create a project (and thus it creates a large quantities of project files along with it).
I want to a project to be a site and only handle the files contained within that folder but yet select a project/site to work with when launching NetBeans.
How do I do that? |

when creating new project, select to put netbeans project files in
another folder so netbeans doesn't put any files with your actual
project folder.

Agreed, that would be my recommended approach. Also - I would not say
NetBeans creates "large quantities of project files" - there are 3
project files I believe.
One other option is to use the Window -> Favorites menu to display
filesystem view where you can add, open and edit any file, but
creating a project is better, because the editing features work much
better inside a project.

Thanks for the tip. I have yet to try, but if the project files can be stored outside the webserver root, that would solve my issues.
Furthermore, I just found out that you can change the syntax colors to whatever you want. Damn..NetBeans is kickin' |
