Hello all,

I'm a newbie to J2ME development arena. I've installed NetBeans 6.7.1 using installer from Sun website, along with JDK 6 update 16, on my Ubuntu 9.04 . I've also, WTK 2.5.2 installed on my machine.
After going through initial, tutorials and basic examples, I wanted to try out some coding for example apps. For that, I used NetBeans IDE, and installed 'Mobility' plugin into it for mobile development. But I've been going nuts trying to solve an issue with the Project Configuration.
When I choose to create a new project, it prompts me saying that, 'No J2ME compatible platform/emulator has been installed in IDE'. So when I click on 'Install J2ME platform/emulator' button, and then 'Add Platform' button, it simply doesn't detect the J2ME platform currently installed on my machine! I've tried various ways and searched through Google but couldn't find any solution to this.
Please help me to solve this issue. why is NetBeans IDE not detecting WTK installed on my machine?(even browsing to the WTK directory, while adding platform, doesn't help either) or How do I add a J2Me compatible emulator or platform? do I need to do something else to the emulator of WTK? or Have I completely misunderstood NetBeans IDE?

First of all, have you navigated to the folder, where WTK is installed?
Do you have enough permissions to run it? Also be aware, WTK does not
run on 64bit platform using 64 bit JVM, you need to install and force
WTK to use 32 bit.

Hi Petr,

Thank you for your reply.

yes, I did. Here is a screenshot, that shows the folder j2mewtk(the one marked with brown colored marker), where the wtk(j2me) files are installed.

It also shows, 'bin' folder, where the emulator excecutable is(the one marked with blue colored marker).
I've tried navigating to these folders, and plus a 'wtklib' folder, which can't be seen in the screenshot. But the IDE hasn't been able to detect any J2ME platform.
I don't know what else to do to add the J2ME emulator to the IDE now?

Well, I just tried that, by running NetBeans as superuser, and still its not been able to add any J2ME platform or emulator. I've even changed the owner of 'bin' folder to check whether then it detects any from it. But that has also been of no use.

No issues, with this. My machine is 32-bit.

Thanks again. And please help me through this.
