Hi Brad,
First l would like to thank you for all the good you are doing to answer our questions. Well l'm running the netbeans bundle with all the software downloaded on a windows XP service pack 2. Each time l run a program
on Java ME platform l get the message as stated earlier, "Error, Emulator
failed to start on time". The emulator does not show up at all. The program runs and builds alright but you cannot see the emulator and alot of people are having the same problem and have also posted the problem on the forum.
Regards,
Charles.

We had the same problem at our school. The reason was that the Windows desktop was redirected to a network share via Group Policy. Due to a very old Java bug (which obviously nobody cares the least to fix!) the Java ME Device Manager tries to put its temp files on that network share. Since the user has no write access there, Device Manager cant find any emulators.

It took me nearly a week to find the reason for this.

There are lots of bug reports for this issue, see for example http://bugs.sun.com/bugdatabase/view_bug.do?bug_id=4787931, but nobody seems to care...

Hi,
l read your posting about the Bug in the netbeans ide and l also believe there is a Bug which needs to be fixed but the question is who need to fix this bug, this is the resposibility of the Software manufacturer, that's why l submitted a feedback to the Sun's team to take a look. My guess is this Bug show's up with everybody who is working with the Ntebeans Java ME SDK because people with different setup on their destops are all seeing this Bug show.
Guys keep us informed on how to resolve this Bug.
Charles.

My first guess is that the bug is really a Java ME/Device Manager bug. The only thing the Netbeans developers could do about it would be to start Device manager with the normal Netbeans user directory as parameter (if that is even possible).

Try to run emulator directly without Netbeans, maybe there is a problem
with Java ME SDK on your computer not related to Netbeans.
