Hi here is my problem:
I recently installed Windows 7 on my computer, then I downloaded the latest jdk update (version 1.6.0_17) and tried to install NetBeans 6.1. The installer popped up a massage saying that it cannot find jdk on my system, even though I had no problems installing the jdk nor the jre that came bundled.
Is NetBeans 6.1 compatible with Windows 7, if not, should I download the latest version? Or is it a problem with something else?
Thanks in advance

Hi,

NetBeans 6.1 (as well as 6.5) installer does not work on Windows 7.
Can`t say anything about NetBeans itself - anyway 6.1 (and 6.5) was not
tested on Windows 7 since W7 appeared after 6.1 was released.
You can either
- download the latest NB version (6.Cool which is preferred way to go, or
- use zip distribution of NetBeans, or
- extract jar file from installer and run it manually:
netbeans-6.1-ml-windows.exe --extract
java -jar bundle.jar

Thanks,
Dmitry

Hi,

I have installed Netbeans 6.7.1 a while ago, everything worked.
I downloaded 6.8 today (complete version) but I stuck on the installer :/

Checked for corrupted download and tried a file a mate succesfully installed on his Windows Vista. Failed in the same way.

I will attach the logfile.

Remove (temporary) files from "C:\Program Files\Java\jre6\lib\endorsed"
and try again.

Greetings,

NetBeans 6.1 was not tested with Windows 7 so that may be the problem.
Also, that JDK is too recent for the relatively old version of NetBeans
you are trying to install. If you look at the recommended JDKs for 6.1,
you can see for yourself:
http://netbeans.org/community/releases/61/relnotes.html#system_requirements

Two potential solutions:

1) If you really have a specific need to use NetBeans 6.1, download an
older JDK from the archive page JDK 6 update 7 should work with NB 6.1,
but I still believe Windows 7 will have compatibility issues with this
version of NetBeans, so you may also need to install an older Windows or
Linux partition that works with NB 6.1. You can get older JDK's here:
http://java.sun.com/products/archive/index.html

2) IMO the better option is to install a current version of NetBeans
like 6.8 or even 6.7.1 and both should be fine with the JDK you already
have installed.

Hope this helps,
Brad

it appears nb651 or earlier will have problems with win 7; i say this
because nb651 does;

just download the zip and use that; also there was a email here in the
past --
there is some cmd line options to the netbeans installer that will cause it
to unzip itself rather
than run as a gui; i dont know the cmd line options

i got nb651 to run by dnloading the zip version for win 7.

jdk version is not an issue for me --i use nb651 and later with
jdk1.6.0_16 - both 32/64bit on win7;

and on a 32bit XP i use 1.6.0_16 on netbeans 5.0 and later; --
5.5,5.5.1,6.0.1,6.5.1,...
i only have issues with nb4.1 and jdk1.6.x;

there is 1 issue with some version > jdk1.6.0_5;
a bug somewhere -- blamed on jdk -- that when fixed - broke netbeans version
<nb6.7.1;
i say this because i have jdk1.6.0_05 and things work -- but got broke when
went
to 1.6.0_14 -- since i dont have jdks inbetween i dont know exactly which
jdk the bug/bug-fix
occurred in.

i had to do with adding servers -- in the services tab -- i file bug reports
and comments.

Hello, i'm new at the forum (and in Java developing aswell) and i have a question, that is related to NetBeans on Windows 7. I searched through the forum, but couldn't find anything that can help.

I'm trying to pin the program to may taskbar, but after i click on "pin this program to taskbar", the NetBeans icon changes with Java's Icon and after i close it and try to open it, nothing happens. Or if i pin it successful without icon change, after i start it, on the taskbar opens new task, not the same. Is this malfunction or something else?

Thanks in advance (:
