I'm considering working through Sun's Java EE 5 tutorial from Sun's site.

Required Software section mentions Netbeans and provides a link back to the Glassfish wiki that shows a table of compatible versions of the Glassfish server, Netbeans and the Java EE 5 tutorial content.
It's been some time since this table was updated and I'm using Glassfish v2 that was bundled with the download of NB 6.5.

Anyone know if this will suffice? This sort of falls into at least 2 categories, but since the requirement mentions NB in this case I thought I'd start here. Ideally the table on the Glassfish wiki ought to be updated, which I'd do personally if I can get some background on where things have come (for example, I'm pretty sure "Sun Application Server" can be put to bed now since Glassfish has become the next generation of this server?)

thanks,
Karl

Sometimes you learn to swim by jumping in the water. The same goes here. You can't know if it's going to work unless you try it. Unfortunately the tutorial you mentioned isn't a NB's one. You might want to see if there's a feedback at the bottom of that tutorial and leave a feedback. Thanks.

Hi Karl,

I'm currently going through that book, with Glassfish2ur2 and Netbeans (I used 6.7beta).
I works very well, considering the magnitude of the platform. This is to say, there are some quirks here and there, but that might be me no reading too thoroghly Smile.

As it is the standard tutorial, you can get a lot of help just googling the answers.

As for glassfish / Sun app server, glassfish is the free, open source, reference implementation server. Once in a while, sun takes the code, puts it through a lot of tests and releases it as Sun Application Server, for which you can buy commercial support. Of course, the changes they make to the code are comitted on the glassfish branch as well.

Michael
