Hi All,

Please I am trying to install portlet container and use it on Netbeans to develop Visual JSF portlets. I have followed the instructions on https://portlet-container.dev.java.net/public/Download.html
on installing portlet containers which says Using GUI:Execute the following command java -jar portlet-container-configurator.jar,

When i do this i get the following error "Unable to access jarfile portlet-container-configurator.jar " in the command prompt. I was wondering which directory i have to run this command from. I have downloaded the open portal container 2.1 both the binary and the source files to my C: drive and i try to run the command from the C: drive but it still gives me this error.

please what do i do to install the portlet container. also i have tried following this turorial on http://blogs.sun.com/satya/entry/easy_steps_to_set_up. please what do i do as i am stucked and almost crying. i have been trying this for days

Also I try to use the add server to add the open portal server but when i get to the PC Home stage the next button to continue is not enabled . please somebody help me i would greatly appreciate.

Thanks.

Thanks Melongo,

I think I have already gone through two of the tutorial links you gave me. The Problem is having choosen the Open Portlet Container or the Web Synergy Server from the list of available servers (supposedly after clicking on add servers tab), everything works fine i.e.

To configure a new Portlet Container Instance in Netbeans IDE

Select Tools > Server Manager
Click on "Add Server"
Select "OpenPortal Portlet Container" from the list of servers
Select "GlassFish" from the dropdown
Enter "GlassFish Home"
- $sdk_home, if you are using bundled Portlet Container with Application Platform SDK
- Glass Fish/Sun Java System Application Server 9 installation directory, if you are using stand alone Portlet Container downloaded from https://portlet-container.dev.java.net

Enter Domain Dir as "$GlassFish Home/domains/$domain". Click on the browse button to select Domain Dir. Default domain is "domain1"

Enter GlassFish/Sun Java System Application Server 9 admin password. Default password is "adminadmin"
* Click on "Next"

The problem arises when I try to perform this step "Enter PC HOme"

Enter "PC Home" as

- $sdk_home/domains/$domain/portlet-container, if you are using bundled Portlet Container with Application Platform SDK.
- $glassfish_home/domains/$domain/portlet-container, if you are using stand alone Portlet Container deployed on Glassfish.

I have downloaded the stand alone Portlet Container available on java.net, but i dont understand or know how to install in on glassfish cos when i try to enter the link as described in the PC Home text area it gives me an error.
Just wanted to know if downloading the Portlet Container bundled with Application Platform SDK would be better and would solve the problem.

Thanks Melongo and I really appreciate your reply and sorry for the long message not properly arranged.

Thanks.

Hi,

Which application server version are your trying to install Portlet
Container in?
In latest Java Tools Bundle (NetBeans 6.5.1 + AppServer v2.1) we install
PC just putting the portlet-container-configurator.jar to "addons/" and
"lib/addons/" directories in AppServer (v2.1) and that works.

So try:
1) stop appserver
2) put portlet-container-configurator.jar to <installdir>/addons/ and
<installdir>/lib/addons/
3) start server

Alternatively you can get the Java Tools Bundle (GlassFish Java EE +
Tools) and install it without NetBeans (click Customize on the first
installer panel) related stuff.

Please check the size and md5 sum.
The correct size for PC2.1 is 1284669 and md5 is
374E7CB87CFFB6A1456A049A9432C647.
If it is different try to download it via download manager or different
browser.

Please also make sure that you run on Java vesion equals or higher than 1.5.
What does "java -version" says? I have no problems running "java -jar
portlet-container-configurator.jar", btw.

recently i spent much time getting acquainted with Portlets -- i knew
nothing but now have been acqainted.

my experience -- is that the single example provided with the updatecenter
does not work;
MashupMapPortlet will not work; after building or from the portlet
repository download.

i found many other portlets from the portlet download site
https://portlet-repository.dev.java.net/public/Download.html

and only about two thirds of them work without getting runtime exceptions.

i was unable to get the wsrp (web service for remote portlets) to work
either -- and i'm not sure what its suppose
to look like if/when it does work; there seemed to be 4 war files -- 2 witih
'portlet' in the name and 2 without;

consumer and producer.

also -- i see there is an "autodeploy" directory in
domains/domain1/portlet-container; sometimes
it seem to work like "autodeploy" in domains/domain1 -- just drop the war
into it and it deploys into
correct contain;

do you drop portlets into the portlet autodeploy and "not" into the regular
autodeploy?

thanks
