I have a project that I've carried with Netbeans since version 3.6 and
aside from some minor glitches haven't had any significant trouble until
today. I'm currently using Netbeans 6.5 and regularly update.

In the Project Properties dialog, I select the Application->Web Start
node and a panel displays to "Enable Web Start" etc. At the bottom of
this panel, a warning message displays as follows:

"A previous version of the JNLP build script was detected. To upgrade to
the current version, uncheck Enable Web Start, and click OK. Then reopen
the Project Properties dialog and enable Java Web Start again."

This of coarse seems harmless, however when I do what it says and
disable web start, after I open the project properties dialog again, the
message is still there. I re-enable web start and click OK at this
point, and it give me an error that it:

"Cannot rename file jnlp-impl.xml in C:\__\nbproject to
jnlp-impl_backup.xml"

This is my first problem. I've checked the file properties in windows
and see no reason why it can't delete it. In fact I can manually copy
cut move delete the file via Windows just fine. Which leads to my
second problem.

In trying to fix this, I closed Netbeans, moved that file to another
location (in case I need it again), then re-started Netbeans. I went to
the project properties dialog again and the message was gone. I rebuilt
the program and everything seemed fine until I tried to run from Web
Start again. I clean and build the project, it says it builds just
fine, but when i run, now I get a JNLP exception that not all jars were
signed by the same key.

This may well be a completely different bug in NetBeans, but I'm not
sure how to handle it yet. What I have done for now, is copy the old
jnlp-impl.xml file back into the nbproject folder so I can get the
project to work under web start again. Unfortunately, the original
error mentioned above is back.

What to do?

Opened a older project (only one years old developed in 6.Cool and now I'm getting the same error unable to build with webstart and can't change project settings as netbeans gives the message:

"Cannot rename file jnlp-impl.xml in C:/.../nbproject to jnlp-impl_backup.xml."

Any ideas?

Might be a permissions issue. For now just rename the file manually so
the IDE doesn't see it there and don't need to copy it.
