Netbeans hangs while "Opening projects"

Netbeans 7.0, windows XP, PHP & Python

It started today, when I open the IDE it has "opening projects" down the bottom and when I click on a project, netbeans freezes and becomes unresponsive.

EDIT: after deactivating the Git plugin I installed yesterday that problem seems to have gone away.
