Hi guys,
I am really missing namespace support in NetBeans (PHP plugin). I have moved from PHP5.2 to PHP5.3b2 and I am really disapointed. There is no NS support. So it is impossible to be working in NetBeans, because when I use namespace, whole syntax highlighting is affected by "Syntax error blahblahblah"...
Is there any new release or patch for it? Or when it will (would) be released?
Thanks for replies... _________________ I'm from Czech Republic.

PHP 5.3 is not supported yet, it is planned for the next release.

Tomas Mysik:
Thank you for reply.
When do you think the next release would be available? PHP 5.3 rc2 has already been released and in about two weeks will be released rc3, hopefully last before final version (announced here: http://www.php.net/archive/2009.php#id2009-05-07-1). So there will be no changes PHP core...

Hard to say, not decided yet (even NB 6.7 is not final yet . But we hope that
at least basic support for PHP 5.3 will be available in milestones of NB 6.8
(so no need to wait for the final version of NB 6.8)

Ok, you forced me to change IDE. I am ending with NetBeans and starting with Eclipse. There already is namespace support and they are NOT lazy as you are... (...not decided yet (even NB 6.7 is not final yet Wink. But we hope...)
Forgive me, but your approach to this issue is not acceptable. _________________ I'm from Czech Republic.

strong words, really... It's about resources, not laziness.

Will be solved ASAP, it means in the next release (we are finishing NB 6.7
currently and this change is really _big_).

Tomas: Well, I'm sorry for that, but I really was not satisfied by your answer. I would say the PHP 5.3 is really good, contains lots of good things and I really think it should be used. It's why I think it should be implemented in NetBeans as soon as possible. _________________ I'm from Czech Republic.

Hi Majkl,
no offense but try to understand us a bit. PHP 5.3.0RC2 was announced on
May, 7th 2009. We don't say we won't support PHP5.3, we say there is no
time to have it in 6.7 release. It's May 25 at the time being and 6.7 in
the world in a while. We appreciate you are pushing us to have it asap
and stress the importance of this feature, you maybe want to see plan
for 6.8 as well. http://wiki.netbeans.org/PHPDevelopmentPlanNB68

Lol...
Namespaces for 5.3 were announced years ago, and it's been almost half a year since the infamous 'backslash namespaces' decision.
Right now it IS too late to include it into NB6.7 but surely there was time to do that?
An unfortunate omission IMHO
On the other hand, PHP relaxed release schedule might mean PHP5.3 will not be GA for some more time... |

I just want to say that you guys are doing a great job with NetBeans. To be pushing out 6.7 so quickly after 6.5 is really good in my opinion. Others may not think the same, but NetBeans has taken over the other IDE's because of quality and consistent work.
Keep up the good work. Anyone using NetBeans is most likely a programmer and should understand what it takes to develop an application. And most other people are doing this development commercially and during working hours. So, I say to the complainers, cut these guys some slack and recognize the hard work that they do.
You're not lazy and you're doing great. Keep it up and try to stay ahead of the curve. I just recently switched to NetBeans, has made my life so much easier. I was using Dreamweaver to code PHP ( ) and eclipse and the rest of the IDE's didn't offer enough for me to use them well.
Anyway, again, we appreciate your hard work |

We prefer to release quite often - roughly two releases a year. I
understand that some users may be frustrated that not all features get
into the particular release, but we prefer to do limited releases
quite often. Also, this means that features which did not make it into
NetBeans 6.7 will be implemented quite soon: NetBeans 6.8 is expected
before the end of 2009.

Actually, the majority of NetBeans contributors are paid by Sun, so we
also work during working hours.

I hope my comment wasn't received as calling anyone lazy...
I appreciate all the work you do. For some reasons you've decided not to include namespace support in 6.7. In my opinion that's a mistake, though it might not be really serious. Good to know it's on the roadmap anyway. |

| How about disabling namespace syntax checking for the final release of 6.7? At least it wouldn't annoy everyone, yelling around... |
