Hi folks,
netbeans.org is now incorporating a forum interface onto its most popular mailing lists. Check it out at http://forums.netbeans.org/.
This NetBeans Developers forum is linked with the nbdev @ netbeans.org mailing list. So when you post to a topic on the forum it goes out to the mailing list, and when someone replies on the mailing list it shows up on the forum.
Since forums.netbeans.org is running on different software than the netbeans.org CollabNet infrastructure, you do have to register separately with forums.netbeans.org. Your netbeans.org user name and password will not work on forums.netbeans.org. We apologize for making you register twice!
Thanks, and please send any problems or comments to webmaster @ netbeans dot org.

This is good news but I see two problems here:
1. Duplicating usernames isn't fun. What do you do to assure that at
least people don't register with someone elses netbeans.org ID ? If
you want the forum the catch on you can't have the extra confusion due
to not knowing if the username on the forum is the same username on
the bugtracker or website. If you can't import the user info
automatically, can you at least have a script that checks if the
contact emails for example on duplicated usernames are the same ? This
way at least you make sure it's the same person...
2. Why PhpBB ? It's renouned for lack of security and the easy
exploits available to deface forums en-mass. Even some of the
free/non-profit sites I use have migrated long ago to other planes
(mostly the ExpressionEngine forum).
