problems installing netbeans

am using vista-32bit. i downloaded "netbeans-5_5_1-windows".
when i tried to run it gave a message" no jdk found in system".then
"a suitable jvm could not be found.pls select a jvm by selecting its java.exe file."
so i downloaded java_ee_sdk-5_07-jdk-6u16-windows. when i tried to run this i got a 16-bit MS dos subsystem dialog box saying "the NTVDM CPU has encountered an illegal instruction
CS:11:cb IP:01b6 OP:63 6f 6e 76 65 choose close to terminate the application."
i need to install netbeans. wat al do i need for tat? a step-by-step procedure to install it completely.[/b]
