Hi All,
I had been using NB 6.5 and found the UML module/plug-in very use full.
However when I upgraded to NB 6.8 M2 I do not see the UML module.
Am I missing some thing or is there any way I can install UML on 6.8?
I have already tried to use Windows> Plugin link, but can't find the UML plugin.
Can any body help?
TIA

Maybe the UML plug in is not ready for 6.8 M2?
I'm facing another problem though.. I've been trying to add the Netbeans UML plug in manually on NB 6.7.1, but have not been successful so far.
I downloaded it from, http://www.netbeans.org/downloads/zip.html.
But it seems that it lacks a info.xml file or something... not sure why...
Not sure if the owners of Netbeans UML like Sergey p. are still actively supporting this add-on? |

Oh! Figured it out...
Appearently, the plug-in list did not reload the list of plug ins after I copied the folder into the NB install directory.
Just got to force de-activate and then activate another module to make it detect the new folder...
So manual install might be an option for you Ayusman.. if you are considering using an older version of the UML package. |

| Maybe the project is dead, from NB 6.5, this module has not been updated.

I tried on 6.7.1. it works for me.
However I installed it from the NB plugin setup itself.

| Any updates on this issues with regards to Netbeans 6.8 RC1, i.e. is the UML plugin compatible with this version of Netbeans? |

The UML plugins are no longer supported. NetBeans 6.5.1 was the last
release where the UML plugins were supported.
The good news is there is a 3rd party UML add on for current versions of
Netbeans: http://www.visual-paradigm.com/product/sde/nb/
I'm not sure if it's 6.8 compatible, but you can have a look at their
documentation to see:
http://www.visual-paradigm.com/support/documents/sdejavauserguide.jsp
Hope this helps,
Brad

Is this the official line of Sun ?
It would *really* be a shame to abandon such a great product ! |

| Yes this would be a shame. It is a good free product and the 3rd party tool is some what pricey. Did they do this for their commercial partner? |

i dont know which UML you are refering to.
but UML module is avail and enabled in my nb68 dev build -dnloaded today;
the dev builds have lots more modules you can use/enable than the released
versions.
but can be unstable also.

The UML plugin has not been actively supported for over a year, and
unfortunately there are no plans to continue development for this module.
Visual Paradigm does offer a free, community edition of their UML tool
that works with NetBeans:

However it seems clear the module is supported in 6.7 from the website:

I don't know if 6.8 is obsoleting it?

There's a difference between "not supported" and "doesn't work."
Even without official support, does the NB UML module work with 6.8?
Has anyone tried it?

It hasn't been tested in 6.8, but you're welcome to try. That said,
using the dev builds and Beta Update Center plugins for commercial
development is not recommended.
According to the 6.5 Release Notes, "five diagram types are supported:
activity, class, sequence, state and use case diagrams", so some things
may still work. Again, not recommended for commercial development. (see
http://netbeans.org/community/releases/65/relnotes.html#uml-plugin for
more details)
