problem of the method merge() with JBoss 4.2.2.GA

I use EJB3, netbeans 6.5.1, icefaces 1.8.0 and JBoss 4.2.2.GA
When I call the method merge() to update an entity, the system makes much time to do this and I sould reload the page. But this problem not exist with the method persist().So why? should I make changes to the run.conf of JBoss?
