Hello, I just upgraded from 5.5 to 7.0.1 and yes that was about time. Smile

I run on Win7 Pro 64-bit.

With Netbeans 7.0.1 "clean and build" takes 6-7 secs for one of my Java projects.
With Netbeans 5.5 "clean and build" takes 0.5-1 sec only for the same project.

While the difference of 5 secs isn't staggering, it is an indication that something is wrong with my installation of 7.0.1. since surely the more modern version of an IDE should be much faster, rather than 10x slower?

Both use the same Java installation:
Java: 1.6.0_20; Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM 16.3-b01
using default parameters on everything.

What could be wrong? Any hints would be very appreciated!

I updated Java version to 1.6.0_29 64-bit to hopefully gain performance. Bad move - now it takes 10-12 secs to do the same "Clean and Build" operation.

Am I the only one with lousy performance on NB7?

I am not trying to start a flame war, but my experience with Windows 7 has been lack luster compared to using NB on Mac, Solaris, or Linux.

There are a number of changes between the platforms. On the whole, I would not judge the speed on NB alone. The difference in Ant, or Maven could be factors too.

My boss decided for me to get a Windows 7 pro64 laptop so that's what I use. I prefer to work in Linux which also makes sense since that's the target environment - but I must be flexible.

To the best of my knowledge I don't use Maven, but perhaps I must when In NB7? My projects are very pure Java APIs I have created plus JSP pages as GUI.

(Now it's 13 secs.. a new record. This is a tiny project, on a super fast laptop!)

I installed also 1.6.0_29 32-bit just to test - this one is twice as fast as the 64-bit one. Makes no sense to me, the 64-bit should be faster I think... but fine, so I will use 32-bit. It's still significantly slower on NB7 than NB5.5.

Thank you John.

Does anyone here know how to get the performance of NB7 to match that of NB5.5? Surely there must be a way.
