HTML and XHTML both are languages using which web pages are written. HTML is SGML-based while XHTML is XML-based. XHTML has more restrictions that HTML.

Web pages can be written in HTML and XHTML languages but XHTML is XML based language whereas HTML is SGML based language. XHTML is difficult than HTML because you cant do lapses in coding in XHTML.
