I've followed all the suggestions here for users who wish to disable the antialiasing in NetBeans but none have worked and actually disabled antialiasing for me.

Editting NetBeans/Contents/Resources/NetBeans/etc/netbeans.conf I added this to the end of default start options:
" -J-Dswing-aatext=false -J-Dapple.awt.textantialiasing=off -J-Dapple.awt.useSystemAAFontSettings=false"

Versions
Product Version: NetBeans IDE 6.5 (Build 200811100001)
Java: 1.5.0_16; Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM 1.5.0_16-133
System: Mac OS X version 10.5.5 running on i386; MacRoman; en_US (nb)

The only option that eventually did work was using a custom Proggy font which was size 4 but scaled up to be actually 16. The problem with using that is I use a size 10 or 12 font and all the other NetBeans fonts like line numbers and code insight windows are scaled down to size 4 fonts making them impossible to read.

There has got to be some way to make the editor not alias fonts on OS X.

This works for me:

-J-Dswing.aatext=false -Dawt.useSystemAAFontSettings=false
(note the dot in -J-Dswing.aatext)

Also quite nice is to use this option
--laf javax.swing.plaf.metal.MetalLookAndFeel

both added to netbeans_default_options

Works for me on
Product Version: NetBeans IDE 6.5 (Build 200811100001)
Java: 1.5.0_16; Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM 1.5.0_16-133
System: Mac OS X version 10.5.6 running on i386; MacRoman; en_US (nb)

This does not work on Snow Leopard with Netbeans 6.9.1

I even compiled the sources, and added to the main frame a call to turn off antialising, and using recursion I made this call for all the components that are on the main JFrame ( And supposedly all the swing components in NetBeans ):
graphics2D.setRenderingHint(RenderingHints.KEY_TEXT_ANTIALIASING,
RenderingHints.VALUE_TEXT_ANTIALIAS_OFF);

But it had no effect, antialising is still turned on for the main source frame.
Any ideas how to turn it off?
